For my Isometric Illustration Project, I chose to illustrate New Bark Town from the Pokemon Silver video game. This illustration is still a work in progress as I continue to make adjustments before the final submission this weekend, so I welcome any thoughts and feedback! Pokemon Silver is a video game from my childhood and New Bark Town is where everyone starts in the game. Since the game was designed for Gameboy Color, a notoriously known 2-D game system, I thought it might be interesting to see this iconic location rendered in the isometric style. While looking up isometric inspiration, I found inspiration from other illustrators who have taken the Pokeball shell and designed Pokemon homes within it. From there, I knew I wanted to set New Bark Town within an open Pokeball. For the color scheme, I created the palette by sampling color from actual game screenshots and slightly adjusted them to translate well into an isometric style. I debated about having variety in the style of trees but decided against it in keeping with the inspired style of the video game where all the trees are the same. However, I created small, medium, and large variations between the trees to keep the composition interesting. I felt this was a good marriage between the 2-D style of the video game and the 3-D style of this assignment. Overall, I wanted to keep the details of the illustration more simple, similar to the actual game. There were a few places where I took creative liberties by adding elements to the backs of buildings and on top of one of the smaller ones. In these cases, I had to imagine what that might look like because, in the video game, you only ever see limited views of these buildings.
